PEACE SILK

Peace silk, also known as ahimsa silk, is silk that is produced without harming the silkworms. In conventional silk production, silkworms are killed by boiled them alive to extract the silk threads from their cocoons. However, in peace silk production, the cocoons are allowed to hatch naturally, allowing the silkworms to complete their life cycle. The silk threads are then collected after the moths have emerged from the cocoons.

This method of peace silk production is based on the principle of ahimsa, which is a Sanskrit term meaning “non-violence” or “compassion.” Peace silk is a more ethical and humane alternative to conventional silk production, as it does not involve the killing of silkworms.

It is worth noting that peace silk production is more labor-intensive and therefor a more expensive silk fabric. But isn’t it worth paying a little more knowing that you have saved some thousands of silk worms’ lives. Lives matter – even if they are small. Peace silk may be slightly less uniform in texture compared to conventional silk, because the silkworms are allowed to bite their way out of the cocoon. However, for us it means a sooo much more beautiful silk fabric.

Silk has been used by royalty and nobles throughout the ages due to its luxurious and glamourous appearance and amazing properties.

Silk is renowned for its luxurious feel, exquisite sheen, and exceptional strength. As a natural protein fiber, it is incredibly smooth and soft to the touch, making it highly desirable for clothing. Silk has excellent moisture-wicking properties, helping to keep you cool and dry in warm weather while also providing warmth in cooler temperatures.

One of silk’s most distinctive characteristics is its lustrous appearance, which gives it a shimmering quality that catches the light beautifully. This inherent sheen adds an elegant touch to any garment made from silk.

Additionally, silk is known for its durability and draping ability. It has a natural elasticity that allows it to stretch without losing its shape, making it comfortable to wear and resistant to wrinkles.

Furthermore, silk is hypoallergenic and gentle on the skin, making it suitable for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies.

Isn’t it fascinating that such a small animal can spin such an amazing thread? Shouldn’t it be allowed to live and turn into a beautiful butterfly? Of course, and that’s the reason why peace silk is the only option for us. We set the makers free.
